  1. Evaluation of quality and performance of HIV, HBV & HCV diagnostic kits.
    Objectives:
    1. Ensuring nationwide supply of diagnostic kits as per National Quality standard of National AIDS Control Organization in accordance with best International Standards.
    2. Ensuring qualityscreening of HIV, HBV & HCV with sensitive kits in blood banks to prevent blood borne infections and aidingin safe blood transfusion. (4 labs in the country; NARI, NIMHANS, NICED & NCDC).
    3. Ensuringquality for nationwide HIV testing following Good Clinical Laboratory Practice in Integrated Counseling and Testing Centers (ICTC) and External Quality Assurance by State and National Reference Labs.
       
  2. Diagnosis of HIV among babies born to HIV infected mothers using Dry Blood Spot samples employing state of art molecular assay for the states of East and North-Eastern India.
  3. Objectives:
    1. Evidence based decision making to facilitate early initiation of ART for HIV infected infants/babies.
    2. To generate evidence of prevalence of HIV among babies born to HIV infected mothers.
    3. To facilitate monitoring effectiveness of current national practice of PPTCT (Prevention of parent to child transmission).
       
  4. HIV Surveillance for Eastern and North-eastern states of India.
  5. Objectives:
    1. Implementation of national HIV Sentinel Surveillance (HSS) among high risk groups and ANC attendees.
    2. Implementation of national Integrated Biological and Behavioral Surveillance (IBBS) among high risk groups
    3. Generation quality evidence for estimation of HIV in different risk group population and monitoring effectiveness of national program for intervention to prevent HIV infection.
    4. Assisting in understanding the dynamics of HIV epidemic which is concentrated in nature and diverse in geographic spread in the country.
       
  6. Quality Assurance of HIV testing for ensuring highest International standard of HIV testingin the country.
  7. Objectives:
    1. Ensuring quality standard of HIV testing for 13 State Reference Labs from 6 states. A&N Islands (Port Blair), Assam (Dibrugarh, Guwahati &Silchar), Jharkhand (Dhanbad, Jamshedpur & Ranchi), Meghalaya (Shillong),Mizoram (Aizwal) and Orissa (Berhampore, Burla and Cuttak).
    2. Generating lab based evidence for monitoring effectiveness of programs.
       
  8. Estimation of HIV Viral load among HIV infected individuals under ART.
  9. Objectives:
    1. Providing estimation of HIV load among patients under Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART).
    2. Assisting in evidence based treatment option for more effective outcome.
    3. Generating evidences for reviewing treatment algorithm.
       
  10. Counseling and Testing for HIV
  11. Objectives:
    1. Providing confidential counseling for the prevention of HIV
    2. Ensuring quality HIV test for any individual, high risk people who want to know their HIV status and also patients referred from ID&BG Hospital
    3. Enabling HIV infected individuals to enroll for ART as per National AIDS Control Program.

Outbreak Investigations

Outbreak Investigation 2016 - 17

Service provided by: Scientists of Bacteriology and Virology Division

On request from the State health referred samples from various State Govt. Hospitals were received and processed for diagnosis of dengue virus with the viral serotyping. All together around 12,000 odd samples have been screened and feedback results have been sent to the concerned department with intimation to the State Health Authority. . More

Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) ICMR-NICED, is a designated Regional Level (Grade - 1) laboratory under the VRDL network established by Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, as a part of implementation of the Scheme "Establishment of a Network of Laboratories for Managing Epidemics and Natural Calamities" to strengthen infrastructure of viral diagnostics in India.  More
